Borussia (Dortmund) boasts a transfer of over 20m euros
Borussia (Dortmund) finalizes the transfer of Manuel Akandji and from now on he is already a football player of the German club. 22-year-old Swiss national comes from Basel with a contract until 2022. Vespals are supposed to pay 21.5m euros.
Akandji played as a central defender, and was among those who were nominated by Juergen Klop. But when Liverpool took Virginia Van Dyke, the road was cleared for Borussia.
“Manuel was the target of several of Europe’s top clubs and we are happy to have chosen us,” said Dortmund Sport Director Michael Tsork. “He has already proven himself both in the national team and in the Champions League, and we see enormous potential for development.”
Akandji is the son of a Nigerian and a Swiss. He began his career in the Second Division Winterthur, and in 2015 he moved to Basel. A year later he suffered a heavy injury and missed the team’s participation in the Champions League, where Basel finished last in the company of Arsenal, Paris Saint Germain and Ludogorec. After recovering, the defender quickly won a top spot with new coach Rafael Vicki and was selected for the discovery of the season in the Swiss Super League. At the awards ceremony, he says his big dream is one day to put on the Manchester United team.
