Sevilla – Sporting Gijon
It’s already clear what is the main goal in front of Sevilla until the end of the season in La Liga – beating Atletico Madrid for the third spot and achieving a direct qualification for the Champions League. Now Jorge Sampaoli’s team is about to host Sporting Gijon at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pisjuan in a game from the 29th round of the league.
We can’t say that Sevilla are in a good form lately. The Rojiblancos didn’t win neither one of their last three games against Deportivo Alaves, Leganes and Atletico Madrid, winning just two points out of nine. Obviously there’s some dip in form in Sampaoli’s team, but now they have a good chance to recover and once again start winning.
Their next opponents Sporting Gijon continue to fight against relegation to the Segunda Division. Sporting are currently 18th in the standings, falling 5 points behind the 17th Leganes and the safety zone. They need as much points as possible until the end of the campaign, but can they take something from a strong team like Sevilla?
Sevilla’s manager Jorge Sampaoli will be without the services of the suspended Sergio Escudero, while Adil Rami, Gabriel Ivan Mercado, Stevan Jovetic and Benoit Tremoulinas are all injured. Nicolas Pareja and Carlos Fernández Luna are still doubtful, but Ganso, David Solis and Michael Krohn-Dehli are recovered from their injuries.
Sporting Gijon won’t be able to use the suspended Pereira Dos Santos Douglas and Jorge Mere, while Borja Viguera is injured. Moises Gomez Bordonado and Nacho Cases are under a doubt, but Victor Romero Rodriguez has recovered from his ankle injury.
This is a great chance for Sevilla to stop its bad run of results in La Liga lately. The Rojiblancos must start winning once again, if they want to win the battle for the third spot in the league. As for Gijon, they will need a really strong run of results if they want to keep their place in the league.
