Leverkusen – Wolfsburg
Bayer Leverkusen hosts Wolfsburg in a game from the 26th round of the German Bundesliga.
We could easily say that both teams are underperforming this season, despite always being ambitious and filled with good players. Leverkusen are currently 11th in the league, while Wolfsburg are 15th, being just two points above Hamburger and the relegation play-off in the Bundesliga.
It’s absolutely unexplainable why two teams with such potential are performing in such a manner, but their shocking dip in form this season is a fact.
Bayer Leverkusen didn’t win neither one of their last four matches in the Bundesliga. For the last time they have won against Augsburg, but after that they were unable to take the three points against Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, Werder and Hoffenheim, losing three of these games. The 2-6 defeat against Dortmund even led to the sacking of the manager Roger Schmidt.
Wolfsburg on the other hand showed some improvement in its last two games, winning against RB Leipzig and Darmstadt. This allowed The Wolves to leave the relegation play-off zone and boost their chances of survival in the Bundesliga.
Leverkusen won’t be able to use the services of the suspended Hakan Calhanoglu, while Julian Baumgartlinger, Javier Hernandez and Lars Bender are doubtful for the game because of injuries. The good news come from the recovery of Jonathan Tah, who is once again fit and ready to play.
Wolfsburg will be without five of its players, who are injured. These are Paul-Georges N’Tep, Ricardo Rodriguez, Jeffrey Bruma, Victor Osimhen and Ismail Azzaoui. Daniel Didavi and Ashkan Dejagah are doubtful and their participation in the match at BayArena is under a question.
Despite being 11th in the standings, Bayer Leverkusen is still not absolutely safe from relegation this season. Both teams still have a lot to play for until the end of the campaign, so we expect a competitive game between these two sides.
