Malmo – Goteborg
The Swedish Allsvenskan is about to start for yet another season. And we have a big derby in the first round. One of the main contenders for the title IFK Göteborg hosts the champion Malmö FF at the Nya Ullevi stadium in Göteborg.
Last year Göteborg finished 4th in the league, but now they are motivated to fight for the gold medals or at least an European qualification.
In same time Malmö will try to defend the title they won in 2016, when they managed to finish above AIK and Norrköping.
Jörgen Lennartsson is about to start his third season as manager of IFK Göteborg. He’s a former manager of Sweden’s U-21 team and he also managed teams like BK Hacken, Stabæk and IF Elfsborg. This year his main goal is going to be improving Göteborg’s position in the table, compared to last season.
Defending the crown – this is Malmö’s main ambition for the 2017 season in the Allsvenskan. This club won the title four times in the last six years, proving itself to be a dominant force in Swedish football. This is also going to be a debut season for the manager Magnus Pehrsson in the club. After leading the national team of Estonia for three years, now the 40-years old tactician returns to the city he was born in, taking the reigns of the champion.
It’s not surprising that Malmö are once again the big favourites to win the title in the Allsvenskan, taking into account how they dominate Swedish football in the last years. But in same time teams like Göteborg are ready to fight back and prove their worth, also stating their ambition to fight for the gold. This game is a very good test for both teams, which are about to check their current levels in the first round of the campaign.
